Mechanicsburg, Ohio police have given the town's pigeons – those left after a recent shootout – two weeks to leave town or face a firing squad. Pigeons nesting on business buildings, churches and grain elevators became such a nuisance that police staged a pigeon shoot January 31,1987 and killed 106 of the pesky birds. Five policemen and several civilians armed with shotguns did the work. Part-time policeman Curt Conley said the pigeons will be given a couple of weeks to find new nesting places before another shoot-out is arranged. The town is west of Columbus in Champaign County.
